For centuries teak wood has been recognized for its quality, durability, and beauty. Teak is a very hard, densely grained wood with a high oil content. The unique combination of these characteristics makes teak wood naturally resistant to moisture, rot, warping, shrinking, splintering, insects, and fungus. It is considered the ideal wood for outdoor furniture.
Three Birds accepts only Grade A, plantation-grown teak timber harvested from government-managed plantations. All of the teak wood used in our products is kiln-dried prior to production. The teak then receives a smooth, hand-applied, polished finish. Time-tested mortise-and-tenon joinery with locking wood dowels holds each piece together. Where hardware is necessary, it is of the highest quality brass or stainless steel. Prior to delivery, each item is individually inspected and shipped knocked-down for efficiency. A hammer, rubber mallet, and screwdriver are all you need to complete the simple assembly.

Teak wood (Tectona grandis), a durable hardwood, performs beautifully in any climate. Teak is the very best you can buy for outdoor use because it is resistant to water damage and severe weather, and will never rot. Teak is known as the ultimate in durability of outdoor furniture. Teak requires no preservatives or treatment of any kind to protect it from the elements. If left outside without oil, the natural teak will gradually turn a light silver-gray. This process could take six to nine months, depending upon your geographic location. This graying is only on the surface and can be removed with soapy water and a poly-bristle brush. To retain its original color, you may treat it with a commercial teak stain or varnish. If you choose to keep your teak furniture indoors, it need only be wiped with a clean cloth as you would dust any furniture.
